Heat pumps & air conditioning
What's the difference between a heat pump and an air conditioner?
In New Zealand the terms are mostly used interchangeably. A modern heat pump is a reverse-cycle air conditioner — the same unit heats your home in winter and cools it in summer.
What size heat pump do I need?
It depends on the room size, ceiling height, insulation, glazing, orientation and how cold your area gets. We assess your home's layout, insulation and specific needs during a free consultation so the unit is correctly sized — not too small to cope, and not oversized and inefficient.
Which type of system is best for my home?
Split high wall units suit most living areas and bedrooms. Multi-split systems run several indoor units from one outdoor unit. Ducted systems with zone control give discreet whole-home comfort. Cassette and under-ceiling units suit open-plan and commercial spaces. We'll recommend the best fit for your layout and budget.
Are heat pumps energy efficient?
Yes. A heat pump moves heat rather than generating it, so a good modern unit typically delivers several units of heat for every unit of electricity it uses — making it one of the most efficient ways to heat a New Zealand home.
How long does a heat pump installation take?
A standard back-to-back split system installation is usually completed in a single day. Multi-split, ducted and commercial installations take longer — we'll give you a clear timeline before we start.
Can you replace or upgrade my old system?
Absolutely. We offer modern, energy-efficient replacements for older heat pumps and heating systems that improve performance and reduce running costs.
Servicing & repairs
How often should my heat pump be serviced?
We recommend a professional service once a year, ideally before winter. Regular servicing keeps your system running efficiently, extends its lifespan, helps prevent breakdowns and improves indoor air quality. You should also clean the indoor filters every few weeks during heavy use.
What's included in a service?
Our service covers a full inspection and testing, cleaning of heating and cooling components, refrigerant and pressure checks, filter cleaning or replacement, electrical connection checks and thermostat calibration. See our Service & Maintenance page for the full checklist.
My heat pump isn't working properly — can you help?
Yes. We offer fast and reliable repair services. We quickly diagnose issues and provide effective solutions to restore your comfort. Common signs include weak airflow, unusual noises, water leaks, error codes or the unit not reaching temperature.
Do you offer emergency call-outs?
Yes — 24/7 emergency support is available. Call 021 0832 4449 any time.
Ventilation
Why should I install a ventilation system?
A ventilation system improves airflow and indoor air quality, and reduces moisture and condensation — helping prevent mould and making your home healthier and easier to heat.
What types of ventilation systems do you install?
We install energy recovery systems, fresh air systems, heat transfer systems, air extraction systems and air purifier systems.
Can you help my rental property meet the Healthy Homes Standards?
The Healthy Homes Standards include requirements for heating in the main living room and for ventilation such as extractor fans in kitchens and bathrooms. We can install heat pumps and ventilation that help landlords meet these requirements — talk to us about your property.
